The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a New Divinity, Declaring it Their Most Ambitious RPG to Date

The buzz about this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a strange statue. The question is finally answered. Larian Studios is creating a brand-new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer that included intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.

Not the Expected Sequel

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This choice of words hints that the team might be building a faster-paced experience as opposed to another turn-based title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it kicked off the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, branching plots, and complex character building—elements that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths that are viable by choosing a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully permissive, letting players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be completed in a variety of manners, sometimes in unexpected fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a clever way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can get ready for more where that came from in this groundbreaking franchise.
