An individual who spiked candy with tranquilliser and gave them to minors at a summer camp in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual crimes against two children both between nine and ten.
Jon Ruben was arrested after eight minors and a grown-up became sick at the location in the summer month.
The senior citizen, from that region, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the courthouse on recently.
Nevertheless, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was against a nine-year-old boy.
The defendant was remanded in custody ahead of a additional proceeding on 28 November.
'Treat game'
Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, described Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.
She said his targets were under-privileged children who were attending a youth camp which he operated.
The man played a "candy game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel said, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and ask them to ingest treats "as fast as possible".
She informed the proceedings the defendant had engaged in this activity with the young males "for many years", and children had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.
She said the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had worries in July 2025.
The legal representative continued: "This year his stepchild had suspicions about what was going on, for good reason.
"They chose" to examine in the man's possessions."
The legal counsel said objects including baby oil, Vaseline and medical needles were discovered, and his stepson notified the law enforcement about his worries.
She said the defendant proceeded to engage in the "candy game" with six youngsters that evening - that Saturday - and they were all sick the next day.
"Authorities" had not arrived by that time," she continued.
The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the situation.
Mrs Prior stated the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson contacted the police a second time.
She stated the defendant then conducted the "candy game" in a room of five youngsters.
